The Arts Council of Snohomish County has been asked to decorate a tree again for the 2009 Festival of Trees. J Leach and Vickie Norris have once again, generously, stepped forward to sponsor our tree. Last year your creativity helped raise over $570,000 in support of Providence Children’s Center.

We are hoping you will offer your creative talents by contributing original artwork and/or special items for the tree as well as the display beneath it.

Tree Theme:  “The Gift of Art…Two Turtle Doves”
Brief description: “A snow covered, winter wonderland tree shimmers with silver, pale gold and topaz. Silver garland branches and acorns wrap the ice frosted tree adorned with glass birds, elegant ornaments, jeweled stars and glittering snowflakes”….now we need your original works of art to complete the tree and arrangement surrounding it!

We truly appreciate you and the time and effort you donate for this worthwhile cause. Please pass this on to anyone else you believe would be interested.

If you would like your name listed in the formal program, we  will need to know that information by the first week in November. Please email Chris Oldfield at coldfield1311@aol.com

Items Due to Arts Council: Tuesday, November 24th

Community Open House is December 2nd, at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at the Comcast Arena, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett, 98201

Thank You,
Chris Oldfield &
Cathy Byrnes

The Art in Great Spaces  is coming to an end next week (Sept. 30th), but before it’s gone several of the artists are holding special events to cap off the program.

First, Janet Wold is having her “Crazy Sale”. Right now many of her pieces are 50% off, so that she can hopefully clear out her stash. She’ll be losing her main studio space in December, so it’s time to purge. And then towards the end of this week she’ll be bringing in more oddities and collectibles for a garage studio sale from Sept. 24 – 26.

Janet’s location is at the corner of Hewitt and Wetmore in downtown Everett. And just down the block are Jane Steele-Meagher and Emily Hannan who are both having opening receptions on September 29th. Jane will be open from 5-9pm and Emily from 5-11pm that night. Emily has been working on a large installation involving PVC pipe called “Pipes and Everett” that you won’t want to miss.

And, don’t forget about visiting our other 4 artists while you’re out and about. Here is a list of all participating artists and their locations through Sept. 30th.

Also, there was a great article about the program  in the Seattle Times this weekend, which you should check out.

It’s finally starting to feel like spring around here, so what better reason to get out and get some art. There is plenty to choose from in and around Everett including our latest exhibit the Mathematics of Art. This exhibit goes through June 25th, so there is plenty of time to see some of Paul Vexler’s wonderful work in the lobby.

The Arts Council of Snohomish County invites artists to apply for a new program, Art in Great Spaces, in downtown Everett. We are working with 5-6 business owners who have unoccupied storefronts and want to find artists interested in using (for free) these storefronts as studio/gallery space between July – September 09.

You must be willing to work on site 30+ hours/week and participate in two scheduled “studio walks”.  Spaces are in “ready to rent” condition with water and electricity provided. $375 stipend per session. One or two 6-week sessions available. Application Forms are available online at http://www.artscouncilofsnoco.org/artistresource.html and are due Wednesday, May 27 by 5pm.

Questions? Contact Glenda Anderson, 425-257-7378 or ganderson@artscouncilofsnoco.org
