In honor of “Black Friday” “Black Monday” and all things related to holiday shopping the Arts Council is trying to encourage some local holiday shopping with a limited time 20% coupon as seen below.

Redheaded StepChild returns from his walkabout March 19, 2009

In case you were wondering, Redheaded Stepchild has returned from Sabbatical. The last few weeks he’s been wandering the countryside taking odd jobs.
He worked for a while as a Carnival Barker
Held a Rock Skipping Workshop
At Lake Okoboji
He started a fitness routine
Now he’s back on the corner of Wall and Hoyt just in time for construction.
He was so happy to see that the Crane and the Kinnebrew match.
Just give him a hardhat
He’s gonna help the skyline change.
New in the Gallery Store: Binky Bergsman March 18, 2009

This month the Gallery Store is featuring encaustic artist Binky Bergsman. Binky has worked with charcoal, pastel, and print, but when she found encaustic, “it was like coming home. She added, “I found my voice and my vehicle. I lose myself in the smells, the colors, the depth, texture and luminosity of a painting. Because encaustic is so immediate and physical I am free to experience the sheer joy of painting. I can paint, layer and scrape to my hearts content.”
Binky is also teaching a Beginning Encaustics class through the Arts Council on April 19th. To learn about this class and other spring art classes click here.
