The Art in Great Spaces is coming to an end next week (Sept. 30th), but before it’s gone several of the artists are holding special events to cap off the program.
First, Janet Wold is having her “Crazy Sale”. Right now many of her pieces are 50% off, so that she can hopefully clear out her stash. She’ll be losing her main studio space in December, so it’s time to purge. And then towards the end of this week she’ll be bringing in more oddities and collectibles for a garage studio sale from Sept. 24 – 26.
Janet’s location is at the corner of Hewitt and Wetmore in downtown Everett. And just down the block are Jane Steele-Meagher and Emily Hannan who are both having opening receptions on September 29th. Jane will be open from 5-9pm and Emily from 5-11pm that night. Emily has been working on a large installation involving PVC pipe called “Pipes and Everett” that you won’t want to miss.
And, don’t forget about visiting our other 4 artists while you’re out and about. Here is a list of all participating artists and their locations through Sept. 30th.
- 2727 ½ Colby – Liz Geiger (www.lizgeigerstudios.com)
- 2702 Colby – Evelia Sanchez (www.potteryloftstudio.com)
- 1302 Hewitt – Ken Rowe (www.2dornot2d.org) & Janet Myer
- 2829 Wetmore – Jane Steele-Meagher
- 2811 Wetmore – Emily Hannan
- 2831 Wetmore – Janet Wold
Also, there was a great article about the program in the Seattle Times this weekend, which you should check out.

Mark your calendars, Thursday, Sept 3rd is the second Studio Walk for Art in Great Spaces, as well as the opening night for the Arts Council’s new exhibit “Of Clocks and Crows”. The second session of Arts in Great Spaces kicked off last week with seven artists (five new) and six locations.
One of the goals for the “Great Spaces” program was to draw interest to available spaces that had been sitting vacant in downtown Everett. Our hope was that some of these spaces would be rented after the program ended. Well the good news is 2 of the spaces rented at the end of the first session, so we have 2 new locations for the second half of the program. Fortunately, we were able to find spaces close to the others in the downtown core. We now have a nice row of artists studios along Wetmore.
See the map below or pick one up at the Arts Council today!
(NOTE: One of the spaces that rented was 1814 Hewitt, but it happened after this map was printed, so Janet Myer is actually at 1302 Hewitt with Ken Rowe)

Hopefully, you’ve had an opportunity to check out the artist studios being featured as part of our Art in Great Spaces summer program in downtown Everett. We had a great turnout for our Juried Show opening and the first Studio Walk last Thursday. If you haven’t been by yet, there is still plenty of time to check out the artists and their projects. (Note: Hours vary by studio, but many are open Tues – Sat. in the afternoon and evening).
One project getting plenty of buzz is Kevin C. McCarthy’s albatross installation. He is sculpting a very large albatross carcass and skeleton out of cardboard, which was inspired by the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Learn more about the idea and follow his progress on his blog where he posts regular updates and photos: http://artistculture.wordpress.com/.
And be sure to check out the other five artists working downtown through August 15:
Binky Bergsman, Mixed Media with Encaustic; www.bergsmanfinearts.com.
Elizabeth Lund, Watercolor, www.lizbeigerstudios.com
Claudia Postema, Watercolor, www.watercolorsbyclaudia.com
Lyussy Hyder, Oil
Ken Rowe, Photography & Film Production, www.2dornot2d.org
