If you’re an artist stuck indoors because of the snow here’s an opportunity for you to think about. Fresh Paint may be months away, but soon we will be in need of next poster artist. If you are interested in submitting an idea for the 2009 poster see the details below:
Each year the Arts Council of Snohomish County commissions an artist to create a unique piece representative of the Fresh Paint experience. The selected artist will receive a $750commission and a free booth space at Fresh Paint (a $125 value). The commissioned piece will be used on the festival poster and will be featured in festival advertising. The image will be seen throughout Snohomish County and in Island, Jefferson, King and Skagit Counties, too!
How do I apply?
All application materials must be received by 5:00pm, February 1, 2009. Late entries will not be accepted. The contest is open to all artists regardless of age, experience, education or medium.
Application must include:
- Name & Contact information (phone, address, email)
- Resume
- 3 examples of artwork
- An explanation and/or sketch of your idea for the Fresh Paint poster.
- Preferably, applications are to be submitted via email to moates@artscouncilofsnoco.org
Are there guidelines for the selected artist?
Yes, once you are selected you must:
- Agree to work with the Fresh Paint committee to create an original work reflective of the Fresh Paint event.
- Agree to donate the original artwork to the Arts Council of Snohomish County in exchange for appropriate tax benefits.
- Agree that all rights of ownership and use of the original artwork will be exclusive to Arts Council of Snohomish County.
- Agree that the final commissioned artwork must be an original two-dimensional work (paintings, drawings, etchings, serigraphs, lithographs, photographs and mixed media artworks are appropriate).
- Agree to create the image in a vertical format. When printed, the artwork will be no larger than 24” X 18” vertical for posters or 79” X 30” if used for banners.

Searching for a few inexpensive ways to jazz up your home decor without breaking the bank? Look no further than the Gallery Store!
Just in are wall decals (or stickers) in a variety of fun, funky, and elegant styles that are both easy to apply and remove. Packs range in price from $21 – $51 depending on the design (Fleur de lis, Poppies, Modern, Flowers, Burnish, etc…). Here’s a sample of our work with the Gerber daisy and modern shapes in the Gallery Store.
Not sure how you would use them in your own home? Check out how designer Candice Olsen used wall decals in a recent room makeover for Home magazine.
Maybe wall decals aren’t for you, instead liven up a vanity, nightstand, or dresser with a few Janet Foley fused glass knobs. Choose either square ($10) or rectangle ($12) in a variety of color combos.
If you have a little more money in your budget you might add some new lighting or light fixtures like this fused and painted wall sconce ($250) by Cheri O’Brien or embellished table lamp ($125) by Lisa Lamoureux.
The possibilities are endless!
