After visiting Janet Myer’s Art in Great Spaces studio yesterday I was waiting to cross the street at the corner of Hewitt and Rucker Avenues when I looked up and saw this…

A view from Rucker and Hewitt
You can’t see our space, just the upper floors for housing, but it was still exciting to see our building as part of the city skyline!

“It’s look like a gymnasium!”
At least that’s what Cathryn Vandenbrink from Artspace said last week when she was visiting the project site. Apparently, the outline of our new Visual Arts Education Center looks very large when you’re standing in the middle of the 20ft tall open space. Unfortunately, we (Arts Council staff) did not get see this first hand, but I did take some new construction photos from the sidewalk.

As you can see Marpac is done with the concrete and has moved onto wood framing for the residential portion of the building.

Enjoy!

That Judy sure knows how to focus
What do you think: coincidence, or planning? Her shirt matches the orange vests…….she’s in compliance. Don’t tell anyone her open toed bejeweled sandals weren’t.
Glenda came too, after all, the Capital Campaign rages on, you never know when the phone’s going to ring.

"you want to donate HOW much?"
We checked out where to hang the art….

Judy and Glenda hang Ursula Stocke's painting
Redheaded Stepchild came along to assist.

He's so cool, he IS the hardhat.
The crew was awesome, and VERY good sports about the whole distracting interruption.

We owe them donuts, fer sure.

Join the Arts Council and Wicked Cellars on Thursday June 4th from 6-9pm for “See and Sip”. As in see some art, sip some wine, see more art, sip more wine, and repeat (in moderation of course).
This will be an evening of art and wine tasting benefiting our Visual Arts Education Center project. More than 20 Northwest and international wineries will be on hand, so be ready for plenty of swirling, sniffing, and sipping. In addition you’ll be savoring hors d’oeuvres from Clipper Cove Catering and have the opportunity to bid on a selection of wine related baskets and art.
Tickets are $60 per person (after June 1st $75 per person) and may be purchased online, in person, or via phone (425-257-8380).
You’ll also be able to get an upclose look at the VAEC/Artspace construction progress, like this view below:

Yesterday our floor, as in a giant slab of concrete, was poured for the the Visual Arts Education Center.

It’s a beautiful thing, just remember to wear comfy shoes.
Obviously it was a lot of concrete…
